The old bookstore (Agnes's travel in time - part 1)

“Hey mom, I’m going out for a walk. I’ll be back in an hour.” I told my mother as I stepped out of my house. We had just moved to London and I wanted to go out and explore my surroundings. My father had been transferred here. We had moved quite a lot and I have never been in a place for more than 2 years. I always like to see the place because I don’t know when we would be transferred to another place. I have always liked traveling and exploring new places. This is something my sister and I share. As I was walking down the street, I happen to see an old bookstore (books are something that I really love, I cannot resist a bookstore. If I happen to see one, I have to go in and see it). I went in and saw that the store was full of books and the smell was magnetizing. The books were all over the store, lying in haphazard manner and the owner of the store was an old lady who walked with a cane. She was short and stout and had a very shrieky voice. “All books are $5 each. Pick any.” the old lady said. I was browsing through the books and I happen to see a book on interpretation of dreams. It looked interesting. I took it out and started reading it. Suddenly I felt dizzy. I got scared and closed the book. After a few minutes I was feeling fine, so I opened the book again to read it but I felt dizzy again and fell down on the floor and fell into a deep sleep. When I woke up, the old lady was beside me and was asked me if I was fine. She did not have her cane and she definitely looked at least 40-50 years younger. When I looked down, I was wearing an old gown, like the one’s Britishers’ used to wear in the old times. I got a little confused. There were other girls there also and they were also wearing similar kind of clothes as mine. I got up and one of the girls’ took me home. On the way, I looked around and it was not the same place I saw a few hours ago. It was like I had traveled back in time. When I got home my mother asked me - “Where have you been? I was worried sick about you. I told you to be back before sun down.” “Sorry mom, I would've come home on time but something happened. I went to a bookstore and fainted there. I don’t know for how long but when I woke up it was late”. I told my mom. “Oh honey, what’s happening to you? I’m really worried.” Mom said. Meanwhile, I noticed that my house was also as decorated as if we were living in the last century. My mum was also dressed according to that era. I couldn't understand what was happening and how was I transported back in time. I slept thinking it was all a dream and in the morning everything would be back to normal. But, when I woke up, I was still here. I decided to go to the bookstore again to find out a way back to my own time. To be continued...
